Important Dates This Week:
What we are learning:
ELA
This week students will read through Chapter 6 of Peter Pan. Students are practicing summarizing, close reading skills, and understanding how chapters build on each other. On Wednesday we will take our Mid-Unit 1 Test.
Vocabulary: illustration, contributes, connections, historical, context, fantasy, character traits, point of view
Math
We began our Shapes unit last week. Students were introduced to quadrilaterals (4 sided polygons), specifically rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. This week we will also focus on the square and the rhombus. Students should be able to reason with 2-D shapes according to their attributes. Students should also be able to accurately draw examples and non-examples of these shapes.
Rectangle: quadrilateral with 2 sets of parallel lines, opposite sides of equal length, and 4 right angles
Parallelogram: quadrilateral with 2 sets of parallel lines and opposite sides of equal length
Trapezoid: quadrilateral with 1 set of parallel lines
Rhombus: parallelogram with all 4 sides equal length
Square: has all the properties of the parallelogram, the rectangle, AND the rhombus. (4 right angles, all sides equal length)
Social Studies
This week we begin a new unit in Social Studies: Economics and Financial Literacy.
3.E.1 Understand how the location of regions affects activity in a market economy.
3.E.2 Understand entrepreneurship in a market economy.
